ÌìÃÀ´«Ã½ Multi Academy Trust delivers education to pupils across the South West.
We aim to:
- Provide a balanced and broad curriculum that promotes the spiritual, moral, cultural, mental and physical development of pupils and prepares them for the opportunities, responsibilities and experiences of adult life.
- Give access to the National Curriculum; provide opportunities for external accreditation, and, for those pupils with specific learning difficulties, effective and personalised programmes.
- Ensure all pupils are supported to develop positive attitudes towards themselves and others. Promoting emotional well-being and self-esteem; helping our pupils to recognise their potential and work positively within their community. We will respect all pupils and encourage them to become active participants in their own learning, develop confidence, independence, self-esteem and express their needs and desires.
- Seek effective and positive working relationships with pupils’ families, schools and other agencies.
- Enable effective outcomes for our pupils.
Academies
The Alternative Provision (AP) academies provide education for mainstream pupils who are not able to access mainstream provision due to medical and health needs and those who have been permanently excluded or are at risk of permanent exclusion or on an intervention basis.
Our Special Academies provide a specialist education for pupils with an Education Health and Care Plan (EHCP).
Alternative Provision Academies
The academies are a mainstream provision for pupils designated as disengaged. They are most effective when they are used as an early intervention strategy to re-engage pupils with their learning. They are inspected as a mainstream provision and as such have to meet Ofsted criteria with regard to attendance, behaviour, attainment and pupil progress.
Pupils access the academies either through permanent exclusion or as a result of being referred to the Pupil Support Panel.
It is expected that a pupil in KS2 will access the academy for a maximum of 4 terms, whilst at KS3 a pupil will access the academy for up to a maximum of 3 terms. It is acknowledged that pupils in KS4 may spend the whole of that Key Stage in an academy.
At both Key Stage1, 2 and 3 pupils follow a personalised learning programme linked to the national curriculum, whilst at Key Stage 4 pupils will follow a personalised learning programme which is linked to both academic qualifications and/or a vocational route, which can include work experience. The pathway followed by the pupil will be dependent on their educational and health needs.
The Community and Hospital Education Service (CHES) and Torlands
The Community and Hospital Education Service (CHES) and Torlands Academy are medical provision academies that provide education for children and young people with complex medical and/or mental health needs which prevent them from attending school full time. We pride ourselves in providing pupils with access to high quality education, ensuring they are thoroughly prepared for the next stage in their learning journey. Personalisation is the cornerstone of our pedagogy; the curriculum is bespoke and programmes are crafted to meet individual needs which demands a totally flexible and adaptable approach to teaching and learning from all involved.
Our medical provisions provide personalised education through a combination of centre teaching, individual teaching and online learning. CHES has three teaching centres in Cornwall; Glynn House our school base in Truro; our Hospital School room in the Royal Cornwall Hospital and our Education Unit within Sowenna, the adolescent Tier 4 unit in Bodmin. Torlands has one teaching centre based in the centre of Exeter and provides further education across Devon through 1-1, small group work and online leaning.
Special School
Glendinning Academy, Newton Abbot, Devon
Glendinning Academy opened in September 2020 to meet the identified SEND needs of the children and young people within the southern area of the county. This special school is for pupils with an Education Health and Care Plan, all places are commissioned via the Annual Review Process, in partnership with the Local Authority.
Glendinning Academy is for children aged from 7 to 19 (key stage 2 to key stage 5) with social interaction and communication needs including those on the Autism Spectrum. Initially the school has opened with 54 places (up to academic year 8) growing to 120 pupils over the first three years.
Glendinning Academy provides a personalised supportive environment, the curriculum has an emphasis on practical and experiential learning. Pupils follow the international curriculum at Key Stages 2 and 3 with personalised learning plans and intervention per pupil. The Academy uses outdoor learning to facilitate the development of communication, interaction, social and emotional skills and providing access to the curriculum. At Key Stage 4 pupils will follow a personalised learning programme which is linked to both academic qualifications and/or a vocational route, which can include work experience.
Working in partnership with pupils and their parents/carers, Glendinning Academy supports everyone individually both academically and in their journey to independence. These partnerships play a vital role in ensuring pupils enjoy, succeed and achieve.
Promotion of British Values
At ÌìÃÀ´«Ã½ Multi Academy Trust we actively promote positive, inclusive values. These include democracy, the rule of law, individual liberty, and mutual respect for and tolerance of those of different faiths and beliefs. We believe British values are those values expected of anyone living in Britain, regardless of their nationality, culture or religious belief.
Our ethos reflects these values. We place great emphasis on building positive relationships in school, amongst the students themselves and between staff and pupils. We strongly believe pupils should not merely be taught such values but that they are embedded into school life and how we do things.
We strive to support our pupils to develop into confident, happy, successful young adults who have empathy towards and an understanding of those less fortunate than themselves.
